Top 3 tips for a lifestyle newborn session

Top 3 things you need to know before your lifestyle newborn session with me here in beautiful Greenville, South Carolina…

#1 - "Do I have to clean my whole house?"

Nope!  You don’t have to clean every room in your house.  Could you imagine how stressful that would be after giving birth to a brand new little baby? We will chat over the phone to decide which rooms get the best light and we strictly focus on those rooms. Please no apologies over a messy kitchen full of bottles on a drying rack or overflowing laundry piles. This is why you hire me because I have been there. Twice actually.

#2 - "I have no idea what to wear"

My reply to this is to come as you are. The lifestyle newborn session will be at your own home so you should wear what makes you comfortable. If you are a girlie girl who loves to wear dresses and is looking forward to dressing up, I can’t wait to photograph you and your new little family!  If you are more of a leggings kind of girl who feels her best wearing something cozy, guess what... I can’t wait to photograph you and your new little family too!!  These will be moments that you cannot recreate and you cannot go back to which is why it’s so important for Mom to be in these photos. I was the exhausted Mom with her newborns and there wasn’t an ounce of me that wanted to be in my child’s newborn photos, so we took them to a studio for their solo shots and I regret it. I regret not being in the pictures even if I looked tired. Even if I still looked pregnant. Your kids will look back at these pictures and simply see how beautiful your family is as a whole. So come on Mommas - I’m here to support you simply by showing up.

#3 - "What if the baby or my toddler doesn't cooperate?"

It’s okay if you have to nurse during our session. It’s okay that your toddler is having a complete meltdown because they aren’t used to a new baby and Dad has to take them to the kitchen for a snack to regroup. It’s okay if you end up having spit up on you. It’s okay to get emotional because all of this is a lot to take in. It’s okay that your photographer will get emotional with you too because she remembers exactly what it was like.  It is almost as if I can tell you exactly how your session will go before we even start.  My lifestyle newborn sessions are just that. We take our time and go with the flow. We do outfit changes, we sing rock a bye baby together to get your little one to calm down and we take breaks.

To all my Greenville Moms who are expecting - reach out with any questions.  I would love to hear from you and hopefully meet your newest little babe!
